Why did people migrate west?

In class we just got done talking about westward migration. The westward migration was the quick settlement of all the unclaimed land in the midwest territories. This land was settled by people moving for many different reasons. Every possible reason for moving that a person can have these people had it, form religous freedom to seeking more money.

Of all the many reasons that settlers moved west, probably none was more common than the pursuit of more money. At this time in American history the west was an exciting place that held many job oppurunities. Common jobs that could be found was farming, textile manufacturing, or you could try to get lucky and be a miner.

Another reason that people moved west were religous freedom. This seems to be a common reason for all migration in the world. The main group that was traveling west to practice their religons was the mormons. The mormon people were driven out of their land for their practice of mormonism. In hopes of finding a new home the mormons travelled to the areas of iowa to nebraska. Here, the the mormon people overcam major adversities in hope of being able to provide a life for their families while keeping their faith at the same time.

The final reason that settlers moved west was to explore the lands and possibly gain a fresh start. Slaves were among some of the groups of people to do this. The land in the west represented a new life for people that were possibly struggling in the east. Although most of the people that moved west for this reason ended up farming which was not successful it was still a common reason.

In conclusion the movement west helped a lot of people start a new life for whatever reason they had. The most successful settlers were the ones that moved to the west for a oppurtunity at making more money because of their drive to suceed in the west.
